Editing is a choice, and process is a stage in the development of things. Some processes are irreversible, and so are choices. Chinese contemporary art has developed over the past four decades. In this short process, each participant made a variety of choices. Some choices are active and some choices are passive. In this process, some people and some institutions are in the spotlight, while others withdraw from the spotlight or even take a curtain call. Look at the past from the present, and then look at the future from the perspective of the past. What was new is old, and what is new is going to be old. The new works revolutionize the old, and the new works of the present continue to be revolutionized by the new works of the future -- this is the process of art.
The exhibition is divided into two units, presented from the upper and lower floors with two "choice" main lines: 1. Within the framework of art history, the selection of contemporary art by the institution as a subject over the past twenty years - old works (part); 2. Future unknowns and knowable Choices -- New works.
On the second floor, new works by Deng Wei, Fu Zhongwang, Fan Anxiang, Gong Jian, Hao Shiming, Hu Weiyi, Ke Ming, Li Jikai, Li Zhanyang, Ni Youyu, Shi Jinsong, Xu Wentao, Yang Xinguang and Zhang Quan are presented (in alphabetical order). Deng Wei's work "Blowing", an ugly, apparently shiny and swollen fish-tailed "unknown object" blowing air from its own ass through a black tube. Fu Zhongwang's work "Left Ink" combines ready-made products, extension forms and rubbings to interpret modern civilization in an "archaeological" way. Shi Jinsong's work, "Sweet Dream · Mold", turned the mold with his own face, exhibited the mold and the candy and chocolate turned, and offered the audience a taste at the opening site.
The unit on the third floor presents the works of 11 artists from 1991 to 2008: Fang Lijun, Gu Wenda, Ji Dachun, Jiang Jie, Liu Dahong, Liu Ye, Sui Jianguo, Wang Du, Wei Guangqing, Wang Huaxiang and Zeng Fanzhi. On the wall of the exhibition on the third floor, Wang Du' work "Missile" is exhibited, which was created in 2005 with the media such as "Art Literature" and "Southern Weekend". According to him, media is the air and blood, and human beings build different cultures with different times. And our lives are incontinently invaded by information, and the media has become almost everything in our lives.
